Stories Direct from The Inmates
Life in PerryvilleOne Wrong Shot Left Young Woman Wheelchair Bound
Corizon, the now bankrupted health insurance provider, sent this young lady to a Pediatric surgeon for a very rare congenital bone disease surgery. She should have gone to an Orthopaedic surgeon with specialized training. Corizon is only interested in saving itself money.
Unfortunately, the rookie surgeon loused up the nerve block shot in her left leg, and since 2018 she has been unable to bear any weight on her leg. She was scheduled for 32 sessions of physical therapy, but only received 9. She is in constant pain, and that wakes her up every 2 hours during the night.
Medical Off-Site Appointments Being Turned Away
As we have reported in earlier stories, Banner has stopped taking Naphcare insurance. This is another installment in I-dont-believe-they-did-this saga.
From inmate’s email. “I had been waiting four months for an endoscopy. Finally, I knew my appointment was imminent because they made me ‘clean myself out’ the day before. I drank a jug full of liquid that was like a Rotor-Rooter, made to completely clear my colon. The next day, exhausted and weak from the cleanout, with no sleep, and no food, I was forced to walk even though I have a wheelchair chrono to the van.
After an hour and a half of driving, we arrived at Mountain Vista Medical Center. The guard went into the clinic with the paperwork and came out with a shocked look on her face. She said, “No endoscopy is scheduled for today.” My despair was palpable. All the way back to Perryville and all for nothing.
I spoke to Head Nurse Madrid upon my return, and he SHOWED me the email from Mountain View that my procedure was indeed scheduled for today at 11 am. The nurse said it could be a computer error, OR they decided not to take Naphcare insurance after all.
My initial appointment two months ago for this endoscopy was Banner, and they abruptly stopped honoring Naphcare too. It looks like I’ll have to wait to be released and contact the Veterans Association. “
W.E.’s Story
(This is W.E.’s story) ” I was born in September of 1950. I have diabetes, heart disease, and COPD. The first week I was at San Carlos an LVN (who shouldn’t be doing injections anyway), overdosed me by 10 cc’s of insulin. Instead of 4 cc of insulin, she gave me 14! As soon as I got back to my bunk I passed out. It was so serious I spent 5 days in the hospital.
My diabetes was very well controlled on the outside, but here it’s a crapshoot. I was taking inhalation therapy for my COPD, but here all they allowed was an emergency inhaler.
I came really close to going blind thanks to the morons at medical. The prison Optometrist tried really hard to get me to see Dr. Heller MD for an offsite appointment. Shortly after seeing the optometrist, I did get an appointment with Dr. Heller. He said I had monocular degeneration, cataracts, and bleeding in both eyes. I had been going to medical complaining about almost total blindness in my left eye. Dr. Heller immediately gave me two shots to stop bleeding and fluid loss. He said he’d tell the prison that it was imperative that I come back every 4 weeks for more shots. Of course, weeks went by without seeing Dr. Heller again. Bless that optometrist though, when I told him I hadn’t been seen, he got on the phone and made the appointment with Dr. Heller himself.
I have had visions all my life, and I had one last night that I died in prison days from being released. I hope this vision doesn’t come true.”
No Panties
Some new inmates to Perryville have not been issued underwear (panties.) Do you know how we keep our sanitary pad in place? We have to go ask a guard to let us borrow a panty to use for the week! Where does $1-billion go? Not enough for panties??? D&J
From Lumly Unit
Our showers have no light and few curtains. The old tile was ripped out, covered in quick-set cement and then painted - it's like showering in a dark cave. J.P.

Treatment not Prison
I am a drug addict, and need treatment, not a long prison sentence. The theory is that this inhuman treatment will inspire people not to come back. It doesn't work. I just succeeds in dehumanizing them so they have no dignity or hope left. Drug addicts need drug...
