I need to give you a little background on Perryville so this will be more understandable. This prison was built in the early
Explaining the Shower Picture
This is an accurate sketch of a real shower in “B” yard, Santa Cruz unit. Do you see the loose wires hanging in the lower door jamb? I was told they were “live” because this shower light is still on. I won’t test this theory! I’ve tried to portray all the standing water in front of those wires. All the shower units have standing water because the drains are all plugged.
Standing water = black mold we see everywhere
When inmates complained about the condition of this shower, they just took off the door and left it open. In the shower next to this one (not pictured) is the same filth.
The regulators (hot and cold) will not engage so moving the handle from Hot to Cold does nothing. The temperature the DOC sets is what you get. In the winter the water is cold and in the summer, it’s hot. The water pressure would increase dramatically if they would soak the shower heads in Lime-aWay to remove 50 years of accumulated minerals.
BREAKING NEWS! Provider Tim Johnson escorted off Perryville property BREAKING NEWS!
8:45am three guards escorted Johnson out the back door of San Carlos medical building. Tim Johnson has been allegedly indicated in many inmate grievances, and reportedly the defendant in medical malpractice lawsuits. Johnson has been a health provider at Peeville for about 14 years, serving various for-profit insurance companies like Corizon, Wexford, and recently Naphcare. More news as it comes in!
Governor Hobbs Creates Prison Oversight Commission
According to the executive order, commission appointees will include members of the AZ Senate and House, an inmate advocacy group, formerly and currently incarcerated, health care experts, family of incarcerated, and representatives of correctional workers. This commission will have the power to inspect prison facilities and to interview staff and prisoners. This order will provide TRANSPARENCY regarding the DOC, which has been completely lacking before this new administration.
Hobbs told reporters, “Incarcerated Arizonans should be treated humanely and decently.” “I don’t think there’s any disagreement that there has been a lack of transparency into these really serious correctional issues, and the lack of urgency to change the way we’re treating folks in state custody.”
CORIZON declares bankruptcy–what this means to Perryville residents
(This is based on Jimmy Jenkins’ 2-19-23 article in the Arizona Republic on this subject.
Jimmy explains in detail the “Texas two-step” where laws in Texas allowed Corizon to split into two corporations and put their debt payments on hold. This leaves malpractice claims on hold denying current and formerly incarcerated people justice.
Corizon ran the prison health system from 2013 to 2019. Lauralee Medley, a former Perryville resident, was nearing the end of her trial against Corizon when she received a call from the court saying a mistrial had been declared. Medley believes Corizon has used the legal system to evade accountability. Most of Corizon’s liabilities are from wrongful death lawsuits, money owed to hospitals, and service providers. In cases where the AZDOC is a codefendant with Corizon, it might be the taxpayers on the hook for judgments.
