Explaining the Shower Picture
This is an accurate sketch of a real shower in “B” yard, Santa Cruz unit. Do you see the loose wires hanging in the lower door jamb? I was told they were “live” because this shower light is still on. I won’t test this theory! I’ve tried to portray all the standing water in front of those wires. All the shower units have standing water because the drains are all plugged.
Standing water = black mold we see everywhere
When inmates complained about the condition of this shower, they just took off the door and left it open. In the shower next to this one (not pictured) is the same filth.
The regulators (hot and cold) will not engage so moving the handle from Hot to Cold does nothing. The temperature the DOC sets is what you get. In the winter the water is cold and in the summer, it’s hot. The water pressure would increase dramatically if they would soak the shower heads in Lime-aWay to remove 50 years of accumulated minerals.
WOMAN WITH ONE LUNG MADE TO BREATHE 2nd HAND SMOKE FOR TWO YEARS!!!!!
The DOC and San Carlos administration has come to an all-time low. This sweet, shy, lady who lost a lung in a traffic accident, has been condemned to breathe toxic fumes from the smoking bathroom. Her cube is only a few feet from A bays designated smoking bathroom. (A note to new readers: smoking bathrooms were chosen by the inmates when Carlos was built. Staff will never acknowledge their existence.)
This lady’s name is Dana, and she was assigned this cube Oct 2021. She has never received a ticket, always done her porter job on time, and is a model inmate. Dana is a lifelong nonsmoker. From the moment she realized that her cube location subjected her to 24/7 smoke fumes, she’s begged to be moved in 8 inmate letters, and 4 emails to staff. She received one paper reply from staff, and zero replies to her emails. There have been numerous attempts to speak to staff in person without receiving any help.
Dana has tried to enlist the aid of medical in her struggle to breathe. Providers there gave her two different kinds of inhalers “because of the smoke”, but refused inhalation therapy and refused to help her move. This poor woman gets absolutely no help for her disability from a state agency entrusted with her care. Not only does this cruelty affect her physical health, it has plunged her mental health into despair….. she has contemplated suicide watch.
Dana recently had an emergency ICS due to breathing spasms. An advocate of hers researched inmate courtesy moves within Carlos, and found they are a common practice…….. for everything BUT smoking. The advocate explained to her all she needs to do is ask to be near a caregiver, and she’d be moved right away. But don’t ever, ever, say the S word (smoking)! A resident will be punished for telling the truth about smoke, but lying is OK.
The DOC is a bunch of lying hypocrites!!!!! They will never acknowledge smoking bathrooms, or smoking out of area, or smoking period. DOC, you have a dark, evil heart for subjecting Dana to this living hell.
Is Lt. Adamu. Racist, Misogynistic, or Bi-Polar?

“We girls were just coming back from pill call, so it was 10:50 am in D-1 bay, San Carlos. Lt. Adamu started raving and screaming about smoking in the bathroom, and called us ‘shit talking bitches’. Then he started taking ID’s and accusing everyone of smoking in the bathroom…. including the nonsmokers! He yelled that he would take the matter to central office, and take restitution money out of everyone’s account in D1, to pay for a new fire alarm.
Allegedly, according to these residents, whenever Adamu comes into D1 he takes any roll of toilet paper he sees on our shelf even if all we have is the policy allowed 2 rolls. When we try to reason with him, he threatens us with a ticket. He only does this to WHITE girls. When asked that day if he was only doing it because we were white he said, ” Exactly.”
(This is not the only incident that these gals in D1 have complained about, they consider this constant harassment. I too have witnessed the Lt’s rages, and profanity firsthand. I’ve also had the opportunity to observe Adamu without inmates (except me) around. He is a completely different person. He’s affable, funny, cheerful, hums happy tunes, smiles, and gives fist bumps…..to his fellow officers. When I asked officers what they thought of Adamu, it was a 100% positive response.
For some reason, this individual believes that being mean and disrespectful to women helps their rehabilitation, (or this is how he was trained to handle inmates?—Ed.)
“Drink More Water”…Yeah, Get Cancer Quicker!
We had a rare interview with a staff member at Televerde. He/She shared: “Televerde has a contract with a water filtration company. That contract comes with monthly inspections of equipment and a lab analysis of the water. I tagged along with the technician and learned much.
For instance: Goodyear has one of the top cities with HEAVY METAL-infused tap water. I learned that this company puts 4 filters on the water coming into Televerde offices. FOUR! The technician did the lab analysis right in front of me, and it came up with 590 ppm of heavy metals (sometimes called forever chemicals). The EPA’s legal limit is 580. “
What can you extrapolate from that as to how dangerous the tap water is WITHOUT any filters? Like in Perryville. And as some reports say, inmates here have 10 times the cancer diagnosis as the public outside these walls.
