COIII Berman Comon and 3 inmate helpers used to package drugs in his office. Officer Comon was paid $5,000 per trip to smuggle drugs hidden in gas station coffee cups, and an ice machine. Surveillance footage showed Comon using Love’s and Quik-Trip cups to avoid scanning, then he would discard them once inside. Investigators discovered a black tar substance in the cups that tested positive for fentanyl, and heroin. The prison value of that was $83,000. Detectives believe Comon transported contraband in an ice machine he moved between units. Comon is charged with 6 felonies and was fired from his job after 11 years of service.

(Ed note: What does that have to do with Perryville? We might want to start with staff alleging the scanners don’t work at Perryville. There is also a steady drumbeat of rumors similar to what happened at Lewis is going on in the women’s prison, but we aren’t allowed to print specific rumors without facts. We can print our opinion which is that it seems unlikely that all these drug overdoses occurring at Perryville could be attributed to just one source…visitation. Highly unlikely.)
