From text messages generated by Lumley inmates, we were able to cobble together an alleged reason for this incident. According to the inmates, a Lumley officer allegedly hit a woman in the middle of a seizure and cuffed her. When other women went to her defense, the escalating fight between staff and women resulted.
Allegedly, the women started fires in the trash cans and broke windows. Outside police were called in and used flash bangs and other riot suppression gear.
One officer was told in the briefing Saturday morning, “It looked like the 4th of July with thunderstorms”. Other units were short-staffed because of this on Saturday.
One woman on Carlos lay ” unresponsive” all night Friday because all medical staff were on Lumley. That woman was carried away in an ambulance at 6:30 am Sat.
I truly feel bad for anyone in Perryville. The guards prefer violence rather than finding out why someone is hurting. The whole system needs drastic reforms. Look at the prisons in the Netherlands- no riots or problems. They focus on rehabilitation. adoc doesn’t.
