Dateline: San Carlos Medical 8-18-29.
Pill call and temp checks were called at the same time today. The inside of the lobby was PACKED with inmates trying to get medication and temp checks, all at the same time. Only 3 women were wearing masks.
It was absolute chaos complete with shoving and shouting, the little female officer was lost in the shuffle, and could not be heard above the din.
With all the emphasis on handwashing and sanitation, you’d think the medical bathroom would be a model for that. The floor was a mess, no paper towels, and NO SOAP or toilet paper! I’ve seen more sanitary latrines in a 3d world country.
The silver lining?
Two health professionals impressed me, let’s give some applause to RNs Villaverde and Brown who give excellent care to the Carlos women.
So….. here’s a thought…. stop shoving and shouting and act like civilized adults. You dont get any respect when you act like animals! Might be worth a try.
Here’s a thought to Tracy. I am an RN, I have been for 12-years, worked all over the place, federal state, county corrections. Hell, I even was at this location. I witnessed very questionable treatment of inmates by medical staff. One I will never forget was an inmate being admitted. This woman was obviously homeless for a while, sunburned, chapped lips, in need of medication that she was previously prescribed, and since I was just coming on board, I was observing. The “lower graded nurse” would not supply her with the most basic medical supplies such as chapstick, lotion, cream, etc. In stead it was explain that the inmate would need to purchase these items. The inmate explained she had no money. This unethical nurse said she would need to get a job. The next inmate came to be evaluated and presented well, no physical observations of anything pertinent. This inmate however requested a number of things, lotions, Tylenol, OTC things that were allowed, not a question asked. Now explain to me how ethical this was? Additionally, these nurses would do the bare minimum. I do not remember what yard this was, but they were pathetic. This was reported by myself, strangely enough I was let go. Other things I watched were nurses working outside their scope of practice, violate HIPAA daily, and etc. So as far as the CO’s not doing their part in controlling a 6′ distance and wearing masks in a controlled environment, not having the inmate workers maintain the cleanliness of the bathrooms, the DOC failing to keep a supply of basic essential needs such as toilet paper and napkins, soap on hand, as well as A SAFE RATIO of STAFF is incompetent and violates every rule of minimum standards. Hell, even “Third-World Countries” can do this Tracy.
